The HiSET exam has 5 parts: Language Arts (Reading), Language Arts (Writing), Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies. You can take one or two subtests at a time, or all 5 at once. Measures your ability to understand, interpret, and analyze a broad range of literary and informational texts, ranging from about 400–600 words in length. Try a practice test.
Assesses your knowledge of standard American English. Multiple choice questions measure your ability to edit and revise written text. A written essay response question measures your ability to generate and organize ideas in writing. Try a practice test.
Tests problem solving using numerical operations, estimation, data interpretation, and logical thinking. Some questions test abstract concepts such as patterns and probability. You may use a calculator. Try a practice test.
You’ll be asked to use science content knowledge, apply principles of scientific inquiry, and interpret and evaluate scientific information. Questions may refer to certain graphs, tables, and charts. Try a practice test.
Tests your ability to evaluate and analyze primary documents, posters, cartoons, timelines, maps, graphs, tables, charts, and written excerpts. Content areas include history, political science, psychology, sociology, anthropology, geography, and economics. Try a practice test.
